Conclusion of the GTC Tournament

"The GTC Tournament just wound to its final strut, and Wanksta MVP walks away with the honor of being named GT's Best! Wanksta out-lasted 63 other competitors for over a month to claim victor of what is being called "The Best GT Tournament" -- I won't claim that because I wasn't around for all the tournaments, but it's nice to be considered up there.

I hope my tournament kick starts more tournaments and more competition in GT, I felt like there was a lack of it, but now it's back, and at very least the tournament kept the attention of a few GTers who were anxiously awaiting the winner.

My advice to others who create tournaments, don't just jump into it, create a well designed and thought out site, I spent 2 days perfecting mine, and then opened it up with an 8 day signup period to get 64 signups. Of course more than 64 wanted in, so I had some pissed off people after I closed the sign-up box. Of course you'll need judges and mine were hand-picked, only the most trustworthy judges can add credibility to your tournament, don't get biased individuals and if you must, don't allow them to judge matches where that'll be an issue. Lastly, cheating is almost inevitable...somebody will sign up with 2 accounts, or somebody will play for somebody else, the key is to prevent it in the first place if possible. The only complaint people had about GTC's Tournament was that they were DQ'd for breaking the rules, and just liked those BANNED from GT, they of course felt they were innocent even though the rules were written clear and concise.

Another thing I offered was options, I gave the participants every bit of info they could ask for. The schedules, brackets, scores, stats, polls, screen shots, names of people in the tourney, etc. I even offered a printable bracket so players could print it out and fill it out before or while the tourney was going on. So that's something I'd like to see more tourneys begin to offer... be inviting or people won't come. Also don't cut off people if they are ranked 300 or worse, 4 of the final 8 contests in GTC Tourney wouldn't have been able to even sign up had I had a strict rank rule... allow some underdogs to have a chance, they will surprise you.

The GTC Tournament is not done, just finished with its first chapter. Wanksta is only one of which I hope is many Champions. I'll pick the appropriate times to hold my tournaments, I don't want to interfere with the rest of the tournaments going on, and I do hope there are more. The next tournaments will probably have fewer contestants, 64 are good and all, but having a month+ long tournament wore a bit on me and the judges. So my next tourney is probably going to be a smaller one. Thanks to Travis, those who participated, judged, and even those who just kept track."
